Strengthening Enamel and Preventing Cavities with Fluoride
Fluoride is a naturally occurring mineral that strengthens tooth enamel and makes teeth more resistant to acid attacks from bacteria and sugary foods. While fluoride is found in most public water supplies and many toothpastes, professional fluoride treatments deliver a much higher concentration directly to your teeth for maximum protection.
At Integrity Dental Group, we apply fluoride varnish — a sticky, concentrated fluoride solution — to the surfaces of your teeth at the end of your cleaning appointment. The varnish sets quickly on contact with saliva and continues releasing fluoride into your enamel for several hours. The process takes only a minute or two and requires no special preparation.
Professional fluoride treatments are beneficial for children, teens, and adults alike — especially those with a history of frequent cavities, dry mouth, gum recession, or orthodontic appliances. We serve families throughout Chagrin Falls, Bainbridge, Auburn, Solon, Twinsburg, Aurora, and Moreland Hills.
The Fluoride Treatment Process
Assessment
We evaluate your cavity risk level and determine whether a professional fluoride treatment is recommended at this visit.
Application
Fluoride varnish is painted onto all tooth surfaces with a small brush. The entire application takes about one to two minutes.
Setting Time
The varnish sets immediately on contact with saliva. We ask you to avoid eating or drinking for 30 minutes to allow maximum absorption.
Ongoing Protection
Fluoride continues strengthening enamel for hours after application. Most patients receive fluoride at every six-month cleaning visit.
